Have you ever wondered what goes into shaping a surfboard?  With Traveler Shaper Talks, our goal is to help you improve your knowledge of surfboard design and construction, which will add to your overall surf expertise!

Join us in the yard at Traveler Surf Club, Pacifica for a hot cup of tea and an in depth discussion with local shaper John Moore, owner of Mystic Surfboards. John started surfing in 1983, has been shaping surfboards for over 30 years, and has a wealth of knowledge that he would love to share with you.

This presentation will help you gain confidence when discussing what you're feeling under your feet, giving you a better understanding of your current equipment, which will allow you to improve your board selection as you grow your quiver!

When/Where:

  • Saturday September 27th: 10am - 11:30am, Traveler Surf Club, Pacifca (5450 Cabrillo Hwy, Pacifica), In the backyard.

Cost: $20/RSVP, Spaces Limited

Topics:

  • John will give a basic rundown of the elements involved in surfboard design, and will discuss with the group, how those design aspects influences a boards performance. 
  • He will have his most popular models on display, including: The Wayyvo, The Falcon, and The California Coaster: Our classic design - longboard collaboration, made with input from Traveler Owner and board designer Julie Cox, along with an additional assortment of boards to discuss.
  • John will also do a good dive into fins; a very crucial but overlooked element of the boards drive/train, including: the number of fins on a board, as well as fin placement, and fin shape

Who this is for:  

  • Surfers of all levels looking to improve their board design and construction knowledge. 
  • Folks interested in understanding what elements they may need in a "Next Board Design", in order to help choose better equipment.

What to expect:

  • This is a small group discussion held in the Surf Club area at Traveler, Pacifica. 
  • John uses visual aids and interactive methods to explain the concepts that he uses. 
  • The discussion is based around a small group and encourages open Q&A, so come with questions and prepare to be inspired. 
  • Arrive early for a coveted spot on our cozy heated bench!
